Clint Capela

Clint N’Dumba-Capela was born in Geneva, Switzerland on May 18, 1994. He attended secondary school at the National Institute of Sport and Physical Education (INSEP) in Paris, France.

He began his professional basketball career in 2009 when he joined the Elan Chalon team of the Ligue Nationale de Basket (LNB) Pro A. He subsequently joined Elan Chalon’s senior team in 2012. Clint Capela also debuted for for the Swiss national basketball team at the 2015 FIBA EuroBasket qualification rounds in August 2013.

In April 2014, Clint Capela played at the 2014 Nike Hoop Summit, playing for the World Team. In late April 2014, he declared his intention to enter the 2014 NBA Draft. In May 2014, Clint Capela was named the Most Improved Player and Best Young Player of the 2013-2014 LNB Pro A season.

In June 2014, the Houston Rockets selected Clint Capela as the 25th overall draft pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. He officially signed with the Houston Rockets on July 25, 2014. Clint Capela was assigned to the NBA’s Development League team, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, multiple times throughout his rookie year. In total, he played 38 games for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers during his rookie season.

Clint Capela scored his first NBA points on March 30, 2015 against the Toronto Raptors. Despite a 99-96 loss, he completed the game with 9 points and 9 rebounds for a total of 19 minutes of game time. In an April 2015 100-90 win against the Charlotte Hornets, he had a season-best game with 10 points and 5 rebounds.

In May 2015, Clint Capela played in Game 1 against the Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference finals. He stepped in to replace Dwight Howard after he was taken out of the game by a knee injury. Despite the fact that Clint Capela played well, he was pulled from the game after the opposing Warriors began to intentionally foul him to take advantage of his poor free throw shooting skills.

Critically, the biggest obstacle Clint Capela faces is his lack of basketball IQ as he often appears to want to make plays without any consideration of what is going on around him. He also appears somewhat lazy and hesitant in Pick and Roll situations, running back on defense, or calling screens. According to the NBADraft.com, it appears that Clint Capela needs a lot of work with his shooting mechanics. Overall, he appears to have the physical tools to make a great NBA player, but needs to become more focused, make smarter decisions, and play more aggressively when he is on the court.

Overall, Clint Capela is considered a very competent European athlete that is not afraid of contact and has a knack for finding dunks and easy layups in transition. However, he is still a fairly raw talent with great potential. He could potentially be a dangerous player in Pick and Roll situations and circling around the basket. Defensively, he is quick, has good lateral movement, and has the potential to be an above average NBA defender with adequate time and training.
